Latisse

LatisseTM is the first and only topical prescription product approved by the FDA to stimulate eyelashes to grow longer, thicker and darker. The parent compound bimatoprost, manufactured by Allergan initially as Lumigan for the treatment of glaucoma, was found to have the side effect of enhanced eyelash growth and was subsequently tested and found to be safe and effective for this purpose.

When applied to the base of the eyelashes once daily, most patients will experience a visible lengthening and darkening of their eyelashes within 4-8 weeks.  Side effects may include redness and itching of the eyes and are uncommon. Excess solution should be gently wiped from the skin of the eyelids to prevent darkening. Latisse should be used with caution in patients with preexisting glaucoma or other eyelid conditions.

LatisseTM needs to be used on an ongoing basis or the maintenance of long dark eyelashes.  If discontinued, eyelashes with return to their normal length and density after about one month.

Our office sells LatisseTM and requires new patients to undergo a preliminary exam to determine their suitability for this product.
